The Perfect Customer Journey.
Most businesses only do two or three of these six stages. The ones that grow do all six - in the right order. Random acts of marketing happen when you skip stages, repeat stages or do them in the wrong sequence.
Visibility to the right people
Get Noticed
If the right people don't know you exist, nothing else matters. This is where most businesses skip ahead - straight to conversion tactics - while strangers still can't find them. SEO, Google Business Profile, social presence and word of mouth all live here.
Capture contact details
Connect
Getting noticed once isn't enough. Most visitors aren't ready to buy on their first visit - so you need a way to stay in touch. A lead magnet, a newsletter, a free tool, a follow-up mechanism. Without this, you rely on people coming back on their own. Most don't.
Build trust and demonstrate value
Engage
People buy from people they trust - and trust is built over time. This is where you show up consistently: helpful emails, useful content, genuine social posts. You're not selling here, just showing that you know your stuff and you give a damn.
Make the sale
Convert
When someone is ready to buy, make it easy. A clear offer, a clear price, a clear next step - and a response that comes back fast. Most sales are lost not to the wrong decision but to the right decision made too slowly. Conversion is where a good website and fast follow-up earn their money.
Exceed expectations
Deliver & Wow
The sale isn't the finish line - it's the start of the relationship that matters. Deliver brilliantly, communicate clearly, surprise people in good ways. This is what turns a transaction into a testimonial, and a client into a repeat client.
Turn customers into advocates
Create Fans
The best marketing is the kind you don't have to pay for. Happy clients who tell other people, leave reviews, share your work and send referrals - this is the compounding stage. Most businesses skip straight here and wonder why referrals are unreliable. They're unreliable because stages 1–5 weren't systematic.
The part most people miss
The journey doesn't end at stage six.
Once a customer has been through all six stages, they don't go back to the beginning. They skip stages one and two entirely. They already know who you are. They've already got a relationship with you. So next time they need what you offer, they jump straight to Engage - a quick email, a phone call, a message. Then straight to Convert.
That's why repeat customers are so valuable. You don't have to spend time or money getting their attention. You've already got it. And if you've done stage six properly - Create Fans - those customers are sending new people your way. People who arrive at stage one already warmed up, because someone they trust has told them about you.
The PCJ isn't a straight line. It's a loop. And the better you build it, the easier your marketing gets over time.
